Motorcycle Headlights: The Four Pay-Offs Of HID Motorcycle Headlights
Motorcycle headlights are of course used for lighting your way at night. Like night-driving in a car, you also need a headlight on a bike to see bends ahead, dangers in the road and also to be seen by other motorists.
In fact, the ‘being seen' is especially important for bikers for so many reasons.
Bikers are more vulnerable than car drivers, because they are riding a small vehicle that offers little or no protection in accident. This means that avoiding potential incidents is a key preoccupation for bikers.
You'll notice that most bikers keep their headlight on a lot of the time, just to give them that little extra visibility, because it's often difficult for motorists to see them coming up behind in their small wing mirrors.
This means that motorcycle headlights are a key safety concern for bikers, and this is where motorcycle headlights bulbs come in.
Older style halogen bulbs, which work by heating up a tungsten filament to create light, are a standard bulb for bikes, but they tend to burn out quickly and lose brightness as they get older. This is problematic for two reasons:
1. They are not as safe for riders as you will neither be able to see as far during night time, nor be as visible to other traffic.
2. They will need to be replaced more often due to the fact that bikers often leave headlights on for safety reasons.
The solution? HID motorcycle headlights.
HID, or Xenon as they're usually called, are a great alternative to old halogen bulbs as they are the brightest that money can buy. You know the bulbs that give out that bright, cool blue-ish light? That's them!
There are 4 pay-offs for choosing HID over halogen:
1. They work by firing a bolt of electricity through xenon gas which creates a very, very bright light which, at around 3000 lumens, is almost 3 times more than old halogen bulbs. So that's 3 times the visibility and therefore 3 times the safety for bikers.
2. They also last a lot longer as they have no element to burn away. Some studies suggest that they last 5 times longer than standard halogen bulbs, that's roughly the life of your bike! With HID motorcycle headlights you certainly won't have the hassle of regular bulb changes.
3. They require less power to run as they don't need to heat anything up. This means that they demand less energy which makes your motorcycle burn less fuel, upping your fuel consumption and making your carbon footprint smaller!
4. They are super-cool, as they are the top-of-the-line type of bulbs on the market, and nothing beats that ethereal blue tinge that they've got. Your bike deserves them!
In terms of price you're likely to pay 30 pounds or more, but this is a small price to pay given that these bulbs will make you safer, cooler and greener all at the same time.
They often have a wiring harness instead of just screwing in. This is usually incorporated in to the body of the headlight, but what you must do is check your bike and the bulb before buying in case they aren't compatible.
The best place to find HID motorcycle headlights? Online of course. Do a search for them and choose to buy from a reputable, secure site and they should be able to deliver them within the week at a much cheaper cost than from a motorcycle dealer or garage.
