Insurance Coverage for Skidding Accident No One Hit No One Hurt Car Totalled?
This morning my husband was driving back from his night shift when he landed on black ice and skidded. His car turned over. He managed to get the driver side open and crawled out. He wasnt hurt and he hit no one. However since the car turned over the windshield broke and the top of the car is badly bashed in. It may be unusable and this is still being analyzed.
When he called Geico , they said that this incident has nothing to do with them. They refused to provide him a rental car and refused to lodge a claim.
Does that mean that Insurance companies dont cover this type of accident at all or did we miss a coverage we should have taken. We do have comprehensive and collision .
Please advise.

This is indeed strange. I have never before heard of an insurance company refusing to accept a claim from a policy holder even if they will later reject it. Particularly from Geico, one of the better rated companies as far as fewest complaints lodged with the insurance commission of various states. If he had collision coverage they must pay the claim less the deductible. As far as the rental car coverage that is not automatic, that is extra coverage which must be paid for separately from liability, comprehensive, and collision.
Let me ask what might seem a couple of dumb questions. Are you sure he is still insured with Geico? Did the policy lapse or did he perhaps forget he switched companies? Both are not uncommon. If he had Geico, did he have collision? Was the collision coverage on this car? Did you buy another car and not notify them of the change or add a car assuming any car you own is automatically covered. They're not. You must notify them when you change cars.
If you are insured with GEICO you should immediately file a complaint with your states insurance commission. I provided a link to how to do it in New York. Your state probably has an insurance commission website with a link to file a complaint. Issues related to denial of a claim are usually handled very quickly.

What is Body Protection Plates
All 4x4 vehicles are capable of travelling on all manner of terrain, and it's possible to customise a 4x4 for off-road excursions such as dune bashing, green laning, mudding/mud bogging, and rock crawling/racing. Vehicles used in this manner need to have extra ground clearance and sturdy tires to enable travel over long distances. Given the bashing such vehicles can receive, it doesn't take an aficionado to realise that body protection plates are a must to ensure vehicle longevity.
Replacement bumpers might be considered merely 4x4 accessories by some, but these parts are built for durability. Built with a mounting system made of heavy duty steel designed to incorporate and encompass distinct vehicle frames, it would take more than a fallen tree to get the better of this high stakes part.
If you're going to go off-roading, then grille guards are your vehicle's best friend. These guards provide front-line protection for the front of the vehicle and prevent unseen obstructions from damaging it. They also prevent debris from damaging the headlights. In an urban setting, 4x4 parts such as these lend an impressively assertive air to the vehicle. In order to provide optimum protection to the front of the 4x4, grille guards must be well-constructed and fit precisely to the vehicle.
Skid plates are steel plates that are attached to the underbelly of the 4x4 in order to prevent damage to key components of the undercarriage. It is also known as a sump guard and is virtually indispensable for drivers who enjoy going off-road. In a worst case scenario, a skid plate that somehow becomes detached when going over the unforgiving terrain of an off-road trail can result in damage to the fuel tank, oil pan and transfer case. A skid plate is useful "on-road" as well – protecting the oil pan from grinding on speed humps that are too high.
While it's true that 4x4 vehicles are built tough and are able to take all manner of punishment, it would be a truly rare owner indeed who would not jump on the chance to get body protection plates for the vehicle.
