93 Chevy Lumina sedan cuts off and quickly back on itself?
Recently purchased a 93 Lumina 3.1 V6 sedan as a backup. Beginning to notice the motor and everything (ie: lights et.) cuts off and right back on by itself. Seem to notice it more when turning, but it also does this going down the road. Rarely have had to restart myself. Have heard these cars have this problem, that its an easy fix, and am wondering what to check
These can be very difficult to fix or even find the cause. There are things you can do to try to simulate the condition and therefore verify what's wrong. The first thing to do is open the hood and remove the coolant overflow container on the RF inner fender. After you move this aside, remove the plastic cover on the RF fender. This is just clipped in. Make sure the coolant jug is out of the way of the motor's moving parts and start the engine. While the motor is running, take a fairly long screwdriver and tap on the PCM. That's the box with all the wires running into it. If the motor stalls or spits and farts as you describe that is what is wrong with it. These things were prone to cracking their internal circuit boards. You can't fix it, need to replace.
Other problems could be poor output voltage to the spark plugs due to corrosion. Check all plug wire connections, spark plugs, and coil towers. Check fuel pressure as well. Plugged fuel filter or a weak pump can cause this. If you can, see if the PCM stored any codes as well.

Easy Joseph "Baby Blue Sedan"
I have a datsun 120y 4 door sedan. What mods can I do for more speed and power. What motor is easiest to use?
My 120y is fully stock. My mate told me to just put a cortina webber and a sports clutch when I put a manual tranny in it, any better suggestions?
the good thing about Dattos is that you can put pretty much any other Datsun/early Nissan engine in them by using the engine mounts, gearbox and in some cases the crossmember from the donor car. try and find a rusty manual 180B or 200B and use that. the engine codes you're looking for are L18 and L20B. be aware that swapping a bigger engine into a 120Y will require an engineering certificate as the 120Y didnt come out with anything bigger than the stockie A12 1.2L engine.
