Cost to replace Olds Alero Front Brake Calipers?
Tried to replace the pads on the front brakes -- trying to take out the 12mm caliper bolts, the bottom one sheared off, and the top one spins and won't pull out. I think at this point I need help. What am I looking at as a reasonable cost for this repair? I just don't have the tools to deal with this. (The back disc brakes are fine.)
Depends if the bolt is sheared off in the hub or the caliper bracket. If it's the bracket, go anywhere and get semi loaded calipers. They will cost about 25 dollars a side and will come with the caliper and the bracket. That's if you do the work yourself. At a shop, mine, I would estimate @ 300.00 parts and labor for semi loaded calipers and using your pads and bleeding the system out.

How to Rebuild Front Brake Calipers : How to Assemble the Banjo Bolt on Your Car
What size wrenches and allan wrenches are required to remove the front brake calipers on a 1996 Chevy Blazer?
It is a 4x4. I had the wheels off and couldn't find a wrench or an allan wrench to fit any of the hardware. Is it metric, or just "off sized"
I think that the bolts may be 23/32 but I am not sure, none of my allan wrenches fit either. Does anyone know what size? May be metric. If you can help me with this, I can go buy the tools and save $100 in labor.
Easy job! Even for the person who has never touched a car before.
All standard sizes will do for this job.
A 3/8 hex socket (or what you call allan) for a 3/8 drive ratchet works best for removing the 2 caliper bolts.
The lug nuts are 7/8 if I remember correctly, and buy a small tube of loctite for the bolts when you put them back.
make sure the allen bolts are tight, don't use a pipe on that 3/8 ratchet and don't worry about breaking the bolds, that 3/8 hex socket will break before that bolt will.
