Need some serious help with my 400ex?
Hi, I hope that anyone could help me out with this problem. Well i found out that my rear axle was moving alot not just a little movement but i mean way to much. Anyways i took off the chain and the rear tires and the rear brake and now i am stuck not knowing how to take the rear axle off. So all that is attached to the axle now is the rear sprocket and brake rotor and the wheel hubs. My question is how do i get the rear axle out of the swing arm? How do i replace the barring carrier and barrings? how do i know that my barring carrier is shot? how do i know if my axle is shot? what parts do i need to fix the my problem with the axle? how do i replace the barring carrier and barrings and how do i know that they are in right? I am pretty good with fixing things but is this job a job for real mechanics? Thanks i know thats alot of stuff to answer but it sure would help me out so much. Thanks Ethan
Ethan; you are learning things the hard way, you need to buy a repair manual for that bike, it will guide you threw any repair on it.
it would be the wisest 80 bucks you ever spent, and it pays for itself the first time you use it.
now, the rear axle bolt has to be removed,it may unscrew or one side may have a locking device on it, but it only comes out one way, once you get it out everything else will fall into place.

Motorcycle Trailer Storage Ideas
If you are sufficiently imaginative with a creative bent of mind, you can think of several ways for material storage on a motorcycle trailer. Creating compartments in the trailer will facilitate storing different objects in a segregated manner.
Storage facility in a motorcycle trailer is highly helpful when traveling long distances as the trailer storage will enable you carry all types of items including safety gear and first aid equipments.
Quite a few motorcycle owners prefer a home-made motorcycle trailer as it can serve the purpose much better than the ready-made ones available in the market. When it comes to home-made trailers, you can always incorporate some convenient features typically needed by you.
Whether you are going to the market for purchase of various items or undertaking a long distance travel, you can fabricate a fairly commodious motorcycle trailer with as much space as a car trunk. Home-made trailers can be quite inexpensive and will not entail more than a day's work.
When you study the construction of motorcycle trailers, you will observe that there are only two basic components - the frame and the compartment.
Frames will have to be firm and sturdy with secure wheels and axles – without violating motor vehicle laws. In fact, you can opt for prefabricated, fully functional freight trailers that are available in many different sizes at reasonable prices. These freight trailers can also be purchased online after searching on the Internet.
As regards the compartment you can build them with ease using a car top carrier. Again, car top carriers are also rampantly available and at affordable prices. Of course, you have to be careful about the measurements as you should purchase a carrier with the exact dimensions that will not fit on your trailer.
Now, all you have to do is to assemble the unit by bolting
together the frame and fixing the axle. You have to fit the wheels and the trailer's brake lights and indicator signals. Now, attach the compartment to the trailer by drilling the required holes and then bolt the carrier to the trailer. It is imperative that you use some strong and dependable bolts. It is best to use quarter-inch self-locking nylon bolts and nuts.
Please remember that motorcycle trailer should be ideally designed to carry the things you will need to carry. It should be easy and convenient to retrieve materials stored inside. Make sure that the floor of the trailer is flat and even and all the sides straight and the front designed in a way that will help easy loading and unloading. It is good to bear in mind that the motorcycle trailer is of light weight – weighing not more than 130 pounds.
It is to be noted that the trailer should be of the right height and it is not excessively wide and the standard rule is -if the bike clears an object while passing, the trailer should clear it as well.
Make sure the accessories like tires and bearings are of universal type and readily available in the market, whenever you are required to replace them in an emergency.
The trailer should be designed providing for optimum storage space – neither too commodious nor too scanty. Aesthetics is no doubt important but do not be too much carried away by cute designs that may not accommodate all the things you wish to carry.
