rejetting a yamaha xs400 to fit k&n filters?
i am thinking of putting k&n air filters on my bike. r - 1090 universal fits to attach straight to the 48mm air inlet on the carb.
i am unfamiliar w/ rejetting a carb. the factory jets are a #160 & a #135. i understand i can just buy new jets, and probably get the spacer washers at lowes. but i am unsure of what to move up to. and considering this motorcycle is pretty much my only form of transportation for a 23 mile each way commute, i want to make sure its disabled for the shortest amount of time possible.
what size jets ought i move up to? will there likely be redrilling? anyone have experience with this bike and tuning? the carb is a mikuni 34mm.
It's not a simple answer.
Where you live, in relation to sea level will have an effect.
The air is thinner, the higher up in altitude you go and that will have a major affect on jetting.
Best to bring your bike to someone that knows what they're doing.

It will explain what to change/adjust to correct abnormal running conditions.

what is a reed spacer on a blaster?
what is a reed value spacer on a yamaha blaster?
It's a spacer between the reed block and engine that lowers crank case pressure and increases volume. It increases low end power while taking top end power away. It's good for slow new riders.
