What to do about 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass ignition key that won't easily turn in ignition?
I broke my ignition key a while ago, and while I was able to get a replacement made, it wasn't perfect. Now I have to twist and turn the key in the ignition in different ways until it finally turns in the ignition. Are there any locksmith methods that can make some kind of replacement based on the ignition lock, or will I need to get the whole thing replaced?
Hello, You can grab your vin# off the bottom drivers side window and goto the dealer with your license and registration and they should be able to cut you a new key from that code. If that method fails, you can take out the ignition switch out of the colum. Once you remove the plastic covering( A few screws hold it into place) it will be self explanitory on how to remove the switch. You can take it to a locksmith to match to a key or re-key or buy a new lock cylinder that includes new keys. Honestly, its probably about the same price either way, just a little more work to replace the switch.

Toyota Ignition Key Programming
Question about ignition switches and reprogramming ignition key?
I own a 99 Mercury Mountaineer. Last night my ignition switch went out. I was not able to turn the key at all. Thank god for my neighbor who is a mechanic. Anyway, he replaced the ignition switch and I have new keys. They need to be programmed. Can I just take my old keys to get the new ones programmed. Or will I have to have my car towed to a dealership?
You could just take that new switch back out and take it to a locksmith. They can repin your new switch to your old key. Just cause your ignition went out doesn't mean there anything wrong with your old keys which are already programmed.
Theres really no need to have new keys programmed and have your car towed. Thats just a big waste of time and money. Plus you'll end of having 2 different keys.
Those are just pin retainer ignitions rotate to on push the pin and you can pull them right out. might have to remove the shrouding that's it.
