HELP! My Computer keeps rebooting itself?
I've got a shuttle X computer that we built OEM a few years ago. After we set it up, soon afterwards, we realized that it would reboot itself every so often at the most inopportune times (word processing, surfing the web, checking/writing emails, etc.). We've reformatted and reinstalled windows xp several times now, but the problem continues to exist. Any ideas as to what to do? I hear it may be a hardware issue, but what piece of hardware needs replacing?
When this has happened to me it's most likely a hardware/driver mismatch. For instance, the motherboard may have it's own video card/support and it conflicts with an old video card you're trying to reuse. Sound cards and modems are bad about this since it isn't real clear what the new motherboard has and what old drivers/hardware you may have to (re)install. Read about the boot up in safe mode procedure (PF8 just after powering on) and select the option to load a minimal set of drivers and load them one-by-one to see if you can at least get Windows to come up. Then look at My Computer|View System Information|Hardware|Device Manager to see in there are any obvious IRQ or hardware conflicts. You've reformatted the HD and reloaded Windows so I doubt it's a virus (which usually causes reboots). After a HD format /S and Windows reinstall from scratch you should make a Win XP boot disk and boot from it. You'll know later if you get problems you have a definite hardware problem because the only thing running is a clean Win XP. When you determine which hardware you need to install use a working PC and visit the hardware manufacturers' websites and get their latest Win XP drivers

Rear G2 Axles Will Take you Beyond the Weaknesses of OEM Axle Kits
I have a HP computer and I want to upgrade the mobo and CPU but I do not have the recovery cd for vista..?
So if I bought a new Mobo, CPU, Vista oem version and small harddrive like an 80gb internal. Could I set it to use the OS off the 80gb w/o removing the OS from the harddrive I already have. Also if I did that, when I boot up after the hardware change would I just put the vista oem disc in or do I need to change the bios to boot up off disc.
you can install the os onto the new drive and the old as well without any problems. yes, you will have to go into the bios and change which hard drive you want to boot from when you start your computer. you can change it back and forth as you like thereafter.
