ive got a go-cart 6hp techumseh engine and its leaking gas out of bowl and sometimes some to alot from the?
air filter. it hardly goes fast, maybe 10-15mph tops with a jerking and wont make it up a hill and on acciason will cut off on you.. can you please tell me why this does it and how to fix it..
info on gocart:
1.) 6hp techumseh engine
2.) belt driven
3.) made sure bowl on carb was tight
4.) belt driven
5.) thats really all..
Step one-compression test, use a reliable comp. tester and check to see how many PSI you are creating. Normal for a new Tecumseh is between 60-90 PSI. If you are below 40-you need a short block.
Your carb is leaking because the needle and seat are worn. These are replaceable, go to the local hardware store with the engine numbers off of the blower housing and get a new kit for the carb. Be sure to clean all the fuel passages, and MAKE SURE that you put the valve seat in correctly. There is an indention around the circumference of the seat on one side, that side faces INTO the carb body. Also, you need to use a flat faced roll pin punch to put the seat all the way in, if you use anything else, you will ruin the seat and it will still leak. Also make sure you remove the old seat. Once you have the seat replaced and all the jets and passages clean, and have reinstalled the float, set the float so that it is parallel with the body of the carburetor when you hold the carb upside down. Put the bowl back on and you are good to go. Set your magneto gap at .012" and your plug gap at .030" and go to town. You may also have a failing ignition coil. Tecumseh's are known to do that. If you go through the carb, and it still dies unexpectedly once it is hot, go back to the hardware store and see if they have a used coil for your engine. And don't pay more than 10 bucks for it.
