FordMondeo2002 Head gasket damage discovered repair costing 500-600USD in India. Is it common problem?
Is it ok to get it repaired from local mechanic or its must to go to Ford Workshop? Would opeing head gasket be a challanging issue for local mechanic, thouogh he sounds its not big deal as he is havin tools n experience.
Very, very common problem - no need for a Ford workshop, anyone can do it, but water pump should be replaced at the same time - they're prone to failure & very simple to change whilst the head's off.

How hard is a head gasket to replace??
i see on craigslist lots of cars with blown head gaskets. they wont pass IM and are being sold cheap . THere is no IM where i live. most say they run , so is it even a big deal?
If you dont have good experience working on cars effectively, especially engine work then you shouldnt tackle a head gasket on any car. there are alot of little things you have to be knowlegable about, some more than others
