Is this too many fish for the tank?
I recently inherited a smallish cylindrical fish tank and i'm wanting to get some tropical fishies to put in it as soon as the water is conditioned. The tank holds jusy over 30 litres which I believe is about 7 gallons. I was considering getting the following: (These come in a starter pack deal at my local fish supplier and are alot less expensive than buying individually)
2 Zebra Danios
2 Pearl Danios
2 Leopard Danios
4 Assorted Platys
2 Swordtails (Pair)
3 Cherry Barbs
3 White Cloud Mountain Minnows
6 Neon Tetras
and I was thinking of a "clean up crew" containing:
2 Algae Eaters
4 Amano Shrimp
2 Red Cherry Shrimp
2 Apple Snails.
I was thinking that because these are all pretty small fish it would be ok as I read somewhere that you should have a gallon for each inch of fish in the tank. Could all you fish experts out there advise if this is too many fish for this size aquarium or alternatively how many fish should I be looking at getting? Thanks.
That is way, way, way too many fish! I would say 5 fish at the most, and make sure none of them will grow to be large. All of the fish on your list look good, just don't get a pleco as an algae eater, they grow to be feet long!
I have a 45 gallon tank, and would never put that many fish in it. They would die. You really need to do some research, and maybe talk to your local pet store for advise. Good luck!
