gsxr 750 starter bike?
i have never ridden a motorcycle before but have ridden dirt bikes and atv's all my life, as well as snowmobiels. now i found this add for one and its really cheap, and in good shape. now i wouldnt be going this big if it wasnt so cheap but i dont see the sense in buying a small one and then needing an upgrade really soon. the thing is i have driven big atv's and snowmobiels all my life but i dont want to be goin hardcore on this thing. i know how to driver machines like this and i wouldnt be using the power, but no other bike falls in this price range, i would only be goin the speed limit and no more, and i also know how to release the clutch as to not flip over backwords, and i am not brave enough to even try crazy stuff on this bike, i dont want to die. could i learn on this bike. i have to take a motorycle trying course first anyways.
As you have ridden dirt bikes before, the GSXR shouldn't pose any real problems for you to learn to ride on the road with, you sound smart enough to realise that it is different to a dirt bike and that it will take a bit of getting used to.Taking the bike course is a good idea, also maybe look at an advanced rider course if possible.
The biggest problem with riding on the road are the idiots out there...you can pick them, they are all driving cars.
Treat every 4 or more wheeled vehicle on the road as if it is being driven by a total idiot who is trying to kill you and you will not be wrong.
I have ridden both dirt and road bikes for years and love every second of it...so go for it...get out there and enjoy

Ninja 500r or Suzuki SV650S?
I'm currently looking to buy my first motorcycle. I want a good starter bike and i have done some research but i cant decide between the 500 or the sv650s. I at 5'11'' and weigh about 160. I have a little experience a while back with dirt bikes and ive driven snowmobiles and ATVs quite often...so my question is which would be the best bike for me?
I hear the sv650s might be too powerful for a beginner and harder to learn on than the 500...but ive also heard that the 650 is great to learn on...any thoughts?
I wish all questions were this easy to answer. I have both bikes. The SV is my choice by far for the local commute, errand run, etc. It's lighter, has dual front disc brakes versus the Ninja's single disc, the frame is aluminum and won't rust compared to the Kawi's older cradle style steel frame. The fuel injection is tons better than the carbs on the kawi, especially at warm up on a cold morning. You can take right off on the SV, while the 500 needed a couple miles on her before the choke got shut off (I have no idea why this engine is so cold-blooded, but that's the way it is). The SV doesn't have any of the 500's weird slow speed handling, or the vibration either, plus the Suzuki can get modern tires for the front and rear, while with the Kawi there was some compromise with what you could select. I agree with a previous post that the 650R would be a lot better comparison than the 500. It's way more modern.
