2004 honda recon firing but will not start?
ATV has been parked for two months in my barn. Battery died, so I replaced the battery. Motor turns over, but will not crank. Was told to replace the spark plug, so I did. Still only turns over but does not start. Did check to make sure it is firing. Plenty of fuel in the tank. Any suggestions?
I have not drained the gas tank yet, but will try that in the morning. I have checked to make sure the kill swith is not engaged. It is getting gas, I have flooded it a few times trying to get it to crank.
Try changing the gas some times it will go bad fast. It did run before. good luck.

Why do ATV engines back fire? Can a fuel cause a change in timing or fowl a spark plug?
I have a yamaha 250 ATV that a nephew filled with E85. Since this it stopped starting. I emptied the fuel tank and refilled with Regular. I got the machine running initially but it idles poorly. After being allowed to sit for a few days it has stopped starting again. It can be started by being pulled by another ATV but then runs with frequent backfires and will not idle.
Carburetor jets are contaminated. Replace the plug, Make sure ALL the old fuel is removed(even if you have to remove the tank), remove the carburetor bowl to access the jets; remove and clean carefully. Reassemble without getting dirt in carburetor. Ride
